Sunday Sermon, August 12: Finding our Spiritual Connections

Throughout August and September, Spirit of Life Unitarian Universalists will be welcoming guest speakers and religious leaders from a diversity of faiths, to give members and guests an opportunity to better understand our religious and spiritual neighbors.   This Sunday, we’ll be learning about the Universal Life Church and its teachings, from the Rev. Wendy Marie Hauver, an ordained minister of the church. She’ll be speaking about her psychic gift and how that has defined her and her spiritual connection.

In existence since 1959, the Universal Life Church is headquartered in Modesto, California, and has congregations around the world. ULC ministers come from all walks of life and spiritual traditions, and the common thread underlying the church’s teaching is a universal doctrine of religious freedom: “Do only that which is right.”

Adult Discussion and youth programs begin at 10 am.  Sunday’s youth program, “Do Unto Others” , nicely complements Rev. Hauver’s topic.  Youth will be revisiting the story of the Good Samaritan, from Christian scripture and considering what it means to “love thy neighbor,” and just who our neighbors are.   In Adult Discussion, our topic will be,  “There’s a 10% Chance You’re Dreaming Right Now” – the nature of reality – “To be sure, we can’t exclude the possibility that this is all a dream,” Maria Popova reflected in the Atlantic recently, “ but as long as it continues, it will not make the slightest difference to how we lead our lives.” Join us for some mind expanding considerations.

All are welcome to join us for services and religious education programs and for coffee and conversation after the service.
