Buddhism,a faith more than 2500 years old with over 300 million adherents worldwide, focuses on helping people:
- Lead moral lives
- Be mindful and aware of thoughts and actions, and
- Develop wisdom and understanding.
Many of the Buddhist practices devoted to the “middle way” of finding balance and serenity, are applicable as common sense and compassionate ways of being for all of us. Starting May 8th, Rev. Nicholas Ozuna, of Rissho Kosei-kai of Tampa Bay, will share The Basic Teachings of Buddhism with us at Spirit of Life UU, in an eight-part discussion series.
Rev. Ozuna studied four years at Rissho Kosei-kai’s Gakurin Seminary in Tokyo, Japan, two of which were part of the graduate program, where he became the first American to complete the course. After interning at Universalists of Clearwater Church, Rev. Ozuna founded the Buddhist Center of Tampa Bay , where he serves as minister today. We are grateful that Rev. Ozuna is bringing his knowledge, compassion and insight to Spirit of Life UU, and invite congregation members and the general public to enjoy this great opportunity to learn more about Buddhism. While there is no course fee, a free-will offerings are gratefully accepted. Please RSVP to attend the class, to info@spiritoflifeuu.org by May 3, or call 813-792-1622.
