Spirit of Life UU lay leader Bonnie Dassing leads us in the next of a continuing series on the late Rev. Forrest Church, revisiting his sermon, “Do What You Can.” In his last book (Love and Death), Forrest said, “I have a mantra that I’ve come to live by over the past few years, and it’s served me very well. It is, Want what you have; Do what you can; Be who you are.” This Sunday’s sermon will focus on doing what we can.
Join us at 10 am for adult discussion, where we’ll look at the thoughts of Debbie Sterling, the creator of GoldieBlox, a construction toy for girls. In an article titled, ” “What I learned in 2013: Create Luck”, she writes about the rejection she received on her first attempts, until she attending a program called StartingBloc, where she learned about “creating your own luck.” “Rather than sitting around, waiting for luck to come your way, you have to make it happen for yourself. Unabashedly. Setting audacious goals and truly believing they are possible – this is the first half of the battle. The second half is going out on a limb and doing whatever it takes to make them happen. “ As we move into the New Year, we’ll consider luck and how to create it.
