On Sunday, October 25, at 11 am, it’s time for our annual Water Communion Celebration , led by long time Spirit of Life UU member, Tobi Weisbond.
The Water Communion is an integral part of our UU Story, first used in a UU worship service in the 1980’s. This service is not only intergenerational but interactive as the entire congregation is invited to bring to the service water from their summer journeys and combine their water together in a communal bowl sharing their journeys and why this water is special to them.
The combined water is symbolic of our shared faith coming from so many diverse sources. Please join us on this day to share your experiences as we affirm our Sixth Principle – “We covenant to affirm and promote the goal of World community with peace, liberty and justice for all…” If you don’t have the water from your summer journey generic water will be provided!
In Adult Discussion, at 10am, we’ll let John Cleese introduce us to the Dunning–Kruger effect, of which we all suffer with some regularity, “a cognitive bias wherein unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than is accurate” owing to “a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize
their ineptitude.” In other words, we think we know more than we do because we don’t have the skills we need to be skilled enough to know how unskilled we are!
Instead of our Youth Lifespan Religious Exploration program, youth will stay in service for our shared Water Communion.
Spirit of Life Unitarian Universalists is covenantal faith community located at 18412 Burrell Road in Odessa, FL that welcomes seekers from all spiritual, theological and philosophical backgrounds who wish to join in a free, rational and responsible search for truth and meaning in their lives.
