Sunday Sermon September 18th 11am: Stoicism

stoic1-copyJoin us Sunday, September 18th at 11am to hear guest speaker, Christopher Fisher , share thoughts on Stoicism and it’s relevance today. We will explore the three Stoic principles anyone can apply to their life. 1. Epictetus’ dichotomy of control 2. The Stoic attitude of gratitude toward all events in life 3. Oikeiosis . the ethical progression from self-interest to citizenship
in the cosmopolis.

At 10am, join us in the Kerwin Reading Room adjacent to the kitchen for our 3rd Sunday Keystone Book Club meetup.  Our September read is  World War Z by Max Brooks. Brooks, the author of the determinedly straight-faced parody The Zombie Survival Guide (2003), returns in all seriousness to the zombie theme for his second outing, a future history in the style of Theodore Judson’s Fitzpatrick’s War. Brooks tells the story of the world’s desperate battle against the zombie threat with a series of first-person accounts “as told to the author” by various characters around the world. Less about zombies than the human spirit. It’s not necessary to have read the book to join in, but for a real grasp of life after the living dead epidemic, it would probably be helpful!

Youth programs begin at around 11:30, following the Story for all Ages in the service.  This Sunday, we’re getting reacquainted with one another, and embarking on our RE spiritual safari.  Cookies included.
