Sunday Sermon April 30 11am: And What About Naomi…?

Naomi entreating Ruth and Orpah to return to the land of Moab, by William Blake

Sunday April 30, Rev. Rus Cooper-Dowda leads the sermon, “And What About Naomi…?”

“Many of us are familiar with the story of Ruth and Naomi from the Hebrew scripture,” says Rev. Rus. “Much is made of Ruth as an  ancestress of King David. But, what about Naomi who started the story by traveling with her daughter-in-law? Naomi’s old friends did not recognize her at the end of the duo’s road trip. What happens when change is that visibly dramatic? Let’s talk about the challenges of personal reboots.”

The Keystone Book Club meets the last Sunday of each month at 10 am in the Kerwin Reading Room at Spirit of Life Unitarian Universalists. Our selection this month is “A God in Ruins”  by Kate Atkinson – A grown-up, elegant fairy tale, at least of a kind, with a humane vision of people in all their complicated splendor. While having read the book of the month enriches the book club experience, our discussions of the topics and issues raised by the books we read can be appreciated by all and participation is welcome whether or not you’ve read the book.

Youth program begins at around 11:30, after the story for all ages.
