At 11am, Rev. Rus Cooper-Dowda leads the sermon, “Way Cool History: From a UU Galaxy Long Ago,” to explore the 1961 merger of the Unitarian and Universalist faiths, to create Unitarian Universalism.
“It’s easy to assume since we get along now, that the merger in the way back machine must have been a pretty easy event. But, merger vote activity in some areas resulted in pulling down the church sign, local politics playing a role and an odd “Letters to the Editor” in small weekly papers as late as 1989. As Max, King of The Wild Things, might put it: “What, when and how did the UU …Wild rumpus begin…?”
Join us after the service for coffee and conversation, or to meet up with the 1st Sunday Lunch Bunch for a restaurant outing, open to all.
