For our June meetup, on June 9 at 11am, we catch up with Dr. Dan Eckstein to hear the latest update on his work with Project World Health .
Dr. Eckstein is a board certified family medicine physician in St. Petersburg, Fl. He graduated from the University of South Florida College of Medicine in June 2012. After completing his residency program in Family Medicine at Bayfront Hospital, he became a primary care physician at Bayfront for two years. Dr. Eckstein is now in private practice at the Roser Park Medical Center in St. Petersburg.
Among Dr. Eckstein’s special interests are travel medicine and medical missions. He has participated in missions to Mexico, Belize, Haiti, the Phillipines, and the Dominican Republic.
“I have been fortunate enough to travel each year to Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic with Project World Health, a student-run non-profit, to provide medical care and education to the underserved population,” says Dr. Eckstein. ” Our group is composed of medical and pharmacy students, medical residents, nurses, pharmacists, doctors, and other volunteers, with over 100 participates last month. ”
He will be discussing their efforts in the Dominican Republic and how support from the Spirit of Life community has helped the group meet their goals, year after year.
A donation of $5 per person is requested to help defray facilities and food expenses. Freethought Fellowship is held the 2nd Sunday of each month and covers a wide variety of topics and fields.
