January 24 Service: The Role of Cultural Arts in the Fight against Racism

Guest speaker Dr. Kyaien O. Conner, Associate Professor of Mental Health Law and Policy at the University of South Florida joins us this Sunday, January 24 at 11am to speak about The Role of Cultural Arts in the Fight Against Racism. Her talk during our online service will also include a video of West African Dancing and Drumming by KUUMBA.

Dr. Conner is associate professor of mental health law and policy, a licensed social worker by profession and a professional dancer.

“As a clinician, social justice advocate and dancer, it is important that we recognize the connections between all these things, and that we all have respective “weapons” we can bring to the fight against racism,” says Dr. Conner. “Many don’t realize that the arts can be one of those weapons. It is my hope people will learn to use their tools, skills and gifts to contribute to the mission of social justice.”
