The summer wheel is turning and we welcome September celebrations of Jewish High Holy Days and opportunities to reconnect, still virtually for now, as we return from summer adventures. Read on to see our sermon schedule email email@example.com for the Zoom link. If you missed any of our August services, you can find recordings of them in our Sermon Library page.
September’s scheduled speakers and topics are:
- September 5 – Rev Patrick Munsell
- September 12 – Guest speaker Del DeChant
- September 19 – The Jewish High Holy Days – A combined celebration of the Fall Jewish Holidays. Join us! Rosh Hashanah is a time for personal spiritual renewal and a time to participate in ancient forms of prayer. Rosh Hashanah begins the Ten Days of Awe that culminate on Yom Kippur. Yom Kippur, also known as the Day of Atonement, is when Jews all over the world pray for the forgiveness of their sins and petition God to be written in the Book of Life for another year. Sukkot is the holiday of the harvest.
- September 26 – Water Communion
More information about each Sunday’s service is provided in weekly email updates (email SpiritoLifeUU@gmail.com to be included).
Parish Life News
While we had hoped to resume in person gatherings this month, due to continuing COVID-19 health and safety challenges, the Board decided to postpone reopening until such time that we can meet face-to-face without fear of viral infection or spread. The Board will revisit the topic at each meeting and decide either to continue our current Zoom format or to start simultaneous on-site and Zoom services in the Pavilion. This decision is consistent with many of the other UU churches in our regional Cluster.
Immense gratitude to our garden and indoor maintenance crews. Thanks to recent weeding and trimming efforst, we have a fresh compost pile started for our gardens. And the indoor clean up party in August resulted in improved kitchen cabinets, and some fresh dinnerware.
Garden Beds Are Available in the Community Garden! September and October are great months to plant flowers and veggies. Edibles such as tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and a variety of other veggies can be planted during these months. This includes those healthy, leafy greens that your doctor has told you to eat. If you’d like to plant some flowers and/or some veggies, please join us!
Share the Plate for September : American Dance Movement
Established by Dizzy Feet’s co-founder Nigel Lythgoe, National Dance Day has become Dizzy Feet’s highly-anticipated annual celebration dedicated to dance, reaching millions of dance enthusiasts across the U.S. While Dizzy Feet’s focus has always celebrated the art form of dance, and its many benefits, a new and expanded vision also includes a robust health initiative. In the spirit of health and dance, the Dizzy Feet Foundation has become American Dance Movement – on a mission to move us all by building healthy communities through dance.
Please be sure to let us know what portion of your Spirit of Life donations you would like to assign to the American Dance Movement.
